Bio

Born in South Africa. Started surfing at the age of 7yrs old in Winkle Spruit. My brother and I at one stage literally surfed wooden planks as our discovery and excitement of this outrageous sport captivated us. We were from a fairly poor family so money to purchase luxuries like a surfboard was a non entity. Hung out with the local LifeGaurds. These were the only surfers in those early days. We would bum their surfboards regularly. Grew up and surfed in Natal. Mainly the south coast of Durban. Warner Beach was my home beach for many years. Other cracker spots Green Point, Scottburgh, St Michaels, South Broom, and Trafalgar. The bluff of Durban: Anstey?s, Cave Rock, Brighton, etc. Durban: Bay, Dairies and other. North coast Umhloti, Ballito, Zinkwazi and other. East London: Nahoon inner and outer Reef, Yellow Sands, Eastern Beach. Competitive surfing for Natal upto age of about 25yrs old. At the age of about twelve my brother, Richard and I, together with some friends would catch a steam train into Durban City( about thirty kilometres away) to explore the adventure of new surf spots. We would walk about another three kilometres to the beach. It was on one of these adventures, we found ourselves at the ?Bay of Plenty? which unknowingly was the premier surfspot along the Durban beach front. Erny Tomson, Shaun Tomsons father, introduced me to competitive surfing. I featured in Boys under 14: 2nd place in South African championships finals, Juniors under 18 surfed in SA finals three times. Surfed in Gunston 500(Durban500) and other local compos.Got tansformed about age of 17yrs old. Life view broadened and discovered value in other dimentions other than surfing. Married at 25 yrs of age. Have four amazing children. Three boys and girl. All surfed. Still enjoy surfing with my sons. Daughter lost interest in sport. Have surfed most of the South African coast. Stayed in Jeffreys Bay for two years. Still one of the best waves I've enjoyed. Cape St Francis and Bruces Beauties. Surfed Mossel Bay, Vic Bay, other. Stayed in Cape Town for approx 17 yrs. Surfed Kommetjie inner and outer. Long Beach, Noordhoek and The Hoek. Big bay, Melkbos plus other and further south south Elands Bay. Moved to Australia Dec 2006. Stay in Perth at present. Surfed Scarborough, Trigg and the Spot. Margarette river a couple of times. Real waves. Yellingup and Dunsborough. My worst enemy is myself...unfit which really sucks when when surfing place like Margarette River. Can still jam relatively well. At present surf a squash epoxy 6'6" and on bigger days a 7'4" thruster both of which I bought in Brazil at a factory shop. Fire really well. Most of surfing life I surfed Des Sawyer surfboards. Des is a very good buddy of mine and has been shaping for past 35 yrs. He has been staying and shaping in Jeffries Bay, South Africa for past 25 yrs. In my competitive youth I surfed Safari surfboards shaped by Spider Murphy. upto the age of about thirteen I made and surfed my own boards. Still keep my hand in it every now and then. Some other boards surfed were Daryl Holmes( beaut of a twin fin)Town & Country(Nigel Pirrow shaped), Wedge, Blue Hawai Des Sawyer shaped) and Glen D'Arcy. I have been fortunate to be blessed to have enjoyed this God creation and that with my children as well. Looking forward to many more years and oppurtunity to explore the rest of the planet, should God permit. "In the beginning God... said..and created...and said it was good" Genesis. "For God so loved...He gave...Jesus...if we cling to, adhere to, embrace and rely on Jesus..we will have and experience a God kind of life." John 3:16 Jesus said;" I have come to give you life, and life in abundence"My absolute fulfillment as one of the surfing tribe, is and continues to be more appreciated since I acknoweleged and yielded to our Creator of these amazing oceans and seas. Enjoy and share without being agro. Making Life Better
