general information
Magnetic Island ofers a few breaks for the hardy surfer. Florence Bay to the north is probably the most consistent but if it is very crowded and there is a fair lump of cyclonic swell bumping about it is worth having a look at some of the other novelty waves and bays on the east / north coast. Picnic Bay is one such spot. Conveniently located just to the east of the main settlement on the island you can walk here from the ferry terminal that connects through to Townsville. If it's flat you can still enjoy a nice swim prior to slamming half a dozen 4X cans into your head on the way back to Townsville on the boat - when in Rome I guess..
