general information

Located on Oahu's east shore just south of Kahana Bay. Easy to find as it's right in front of the a rock formation 'Crouching Lion' giving it's name to the surf spot. You can see the the waves from the highway. A longish paddle from here will bring you to a fast right hander that gets very hollow and breaks towards Kahana Bay. Surfing ability and tube riding skills are essential, as the paddle and the reef can make it a hard day at the office for some. There are also shorter lefts.

The rock formation is located on the mountain ridge above Kahana Bay is said to be Kupua, a relative of Pele, who wished to follow Hi'iaka (Pele's sister) but was turned to stone. The Hawaiians, having never seen a lion, thought this rock formation was a large headed dog. Later, westerners named the rock "Crouching Lion".
