general information
Located on the southeast shore of Oahu, between Hanauma Bay Nature Reserve and Makapuu Point. Sandy Beach is rather infamous for it's super hollow heavy shore break that attracts boogies and body surfers looking for a gnarly short barrel. Board riders still hit the water and Sandy's is home to a coupe of different breaks with the outer ones catering for shortboards.
A word of warning, once it gets shoulder to head high and above, it is a serious wave and there have been several head to sandbar related accidents here. So think seriously before heading out.
Sandy Beach Park is located out of the main tourist stretch and so provides some relief from the Waikiki insanity.
