general information
Just west of Queens, but still straight off Kuhio Beach, is a break called Canoes. Named due to the amount of outrigger canoes that surf the break. On a small day, which is most of the time, these classic hawaiian canoes catch the tiniest of swell in the water and cruise in from way out the back, beware! If you can't pick the break from these canoes, just head ot the big Duke statue and there you are, hit the water. Apart from the crowds, it could be one of the best waves in the world to learn to surf.
The wave itself is mostly a mellow one with a long growing right and left wall that is a magnet for everyone from local rippers to tourist newbies on rented 10 foot boards. However on a solid south swell with offshore nor'easr trades, it can produce a nice barreling right. Have to surf it at least once, truly Waikiki.
