general information
Flat beach break right in the town centre of Scarborough in front of the promenade lined with arcades and shops and just south of the harbour. Flat beach break sometimes refered to as "South gay" instead of south bay for it's guttless rides. However, can be a good option on a huge north easterly swell and receives protection from north easterly winds. Further south along the bay the flat sand bottom gives way to reef which can produce some good walling peaks on the right day. Very busy due to it's town centre location and easy access, parking along the promenade. Popular with beginners at the north end of the beach.
