general information
Far north Queensland, with the exception of a few secret spots, isn't really know for it's quality surf, this is partly due to the Barrier Reef blocking off most open ocean swells leaving much of the inshore coastline here like a duckpond. However, there is potential for surf on some of the beaches, such as this one listed at Port Douglas, when strong storm winds or cyclones pass nearby. Four Mile Beach is no different needing heavy wind swell to produce a small rideable wave, it won't quench the thirst of an experienced.
