general information
Ipanema is one of the best known stretch of beach in Brazil (after Copacabana) and one of the most glamorous and expensive. Worth a visit just for the beautiful people, lively bars and rocking atmosphere. The waves vary from mushy beachies to punchy barrels depending on sandbar/swell/wind combo. Praia do Leblon is located west of the small channel but you could say they are the same beach looking at them from a distance.
If it's big and closing out, check Pontao do Leblon at the far western end of Leblon or Arproador at the eastern end of the beach.
