general information
Boobs is a high quality right-hand reef break just west of Steps and Evos. The wave walls up nicely, and has plenty of push behind it - you can crack big turns and get small barrels on the inside. It doesn’t have the race-track sections of Winki Pop to the west, but it is very good none the less.
To check the surf, go to the Bird Rock look out, located to the east. To get to Boobs, park at the Steps car park and walk down stairs to the beach (there’s no beach, it’s just rocks). Walk 200 metres west across the rocks, but be careful on a high tide when the swell is large. You’ll walk past the small right-handers of Evos and get to a small bay. Paddle across the bay and you’re there.
Despite the effort it takes to get to Boobs, it doesn’t deter people from venturing up here. It’s a consistent wave, surfable from two to six foot (waist high to double overhead), and is more accommodating to intermediate surfers than Winki Pop.
There’s no obvious explanation for how this spot was named. Maybe that’s something you can ponder while sitting in the water, enjoying the classic waves and beautiful coastline down at Boobs.
