general information
Fairy Bower is the point you can see over the bay of Shelly Beach at the southern end of Manly Beach. Situated on its own headland The Bower is easy to find, just follow the road up the Eastern Hill, turn left at the top and then follow the road around to the end.
Paddle out is a long one from Shelly Beach or a tip toe over the rocks which is always a bit dicey.
The wave is a right reef/point break that starts to break only when the swell on the open beaches is 4ft or over. Ideal in a southerly wind and higher tide, The Bower is a reliable wave for experienced surfers. Waves follow the reef forming good, fast sections that can get very shallow on lower tide. A good wave here can see you surf over 100m.
The wave has a couple of take off spots but doesn't take many people before it gets crowded. Also be prepared for a paddle when you out there as the sweep can pull you back down the point, especially on bigger days. The Bower can hold swell up to 12ft before they break to wide and waves get full.
