general information

Situated on the southern side of the Long Reef headland and golf course is a rocky out crop at the bottom of a cliff, this is Butter Box. The forgotten cousin of the South Coast's Green Island, Butterbox is a fickle left hand reef break that needs all the elements to come together to work with any style at all.

To access the wave you need to follow the track along the edge of the golf course to the tip of the headland and then walk down the rough track, around 600m from either end. Paddle out is off the end of the rock ledge, not too difficult, just longish.

Ideal conditions are when there is a north wind and a decent southerly swell. A bit a a rare occurance but when it is on, waves can be quite solid and run left for 100m or so. Can get crowded , particularly on a weekend or holiday.

A fun wave if you score it right.
