general information

South Wall is the break on the southern side of the Richmond River mouth at Ballina. Access is via the ferry at West Ballina and turn left and drive back as far as you can to the coast, parking near the break. For those who are really keen or without transport you can paddle the 400m across the breakwater (river mouth) from North Wall but it is dangerous! Boats, strong currents, sharks and oyster covered rocks are all issues you will need to consider.

The wave it self can be world class with solid peaks jacking up off the breakwall. Steep take offs and fast barrels are the norm. A great wave for experienced surfers. Down the beach a bit can also produce quality waves if the banks are right, although not as critical as the waves against the wall.

South Wall is also one of the few waves that are protected in a Summer NE wind too, so it does get very crowded in the long afternoons.
