general information
Point Danger is a reef break approximately 300 metres from shore. Rideable waves break on various section of the reef, where is best changes from day to day.
Surfers rarely go out here, although it is very popular with wind surfers. Point Danger is a bit like a mirage - it looks good from a distance, but is usually average once you get out there. It does have its occasional good days, but considering the quality of the surrounding surf breaks, you’re best not waiting for Point Danger to turn on.
Despite the name, Point Danger isn’t an overly powerful or menacing wave. The most dangerous thing about this spot is the guys who tear around out here on jet skis, thinking they’re Evil Knievel.
Point Danger can be seen from Torquay Back Beach, it’s to the east. Park on the point, just off The Esplanade, and paddle out behind the reef where the wave breaks.
