general information
Thirteenth Beach is a high quality piece of coastline when it comes to surfing. There is an array of beach breaks, with patches of reef lining this three kilometre stretch. Surfers of all skill levels are accommodated at Thirteenth, such is the variety of surf breaks found here.
From the east, the first break is The Hole. The Hole isn’t one specific break, but rather a stretch of beach with shifting sand banks and patches of reef. The Hole picks up a lot of swell, and can hold waves up to six foot and bigger (double overhead). The waves here usually produce nice workable walls with plenty of power. Barrels aren’t all that common, but they do happen.
All the breaks are easy to find, as they’re all located on Thirteenth Beach Drive, just outside of Barwon Heads. There are car parks and stairs at each break, they are all sign posted.
The guys and girls who surf Thirteenth are your classic laid back Victorian surfing types. They don’t get too stressed about things - but then, there isn’t too much to get stressed about, as the surf here is consistently good.
