flying over surf

Had a birthday prezzie - microlight flight over central coast NSW. Hands down the best way to photograph spots or to find the nicest break.

Minimal vibration, low altitude fly overs, ample space for taking pics from any side of the craft...but is hell scary due to turbulence! Great adrenaline rush. Some pilots go on pilgrimage around Australian coast, if you have decent camera, good sized bladder and tough gut - best way to document Oz coast.

PS Flew with them - http://www.microlight.net.au/

Browsed the photos of your birthday flight, good stuff, nice to see Forries and all the other CC breaks old home ground. miss the power of Forries often.Only thing that could have enhanced your flight more would have been to do it in your birthday suit!Planning a helicopter flight over my local, as there is an airport and ultra lights might be problematic but if the ultra light is available then that's the way to go.

Happy old fart!

Central coast was on fire smile

Birthday suit on microlight - no way! smile I wasn't wearing gloves and could hardly feel my hands, but luckily wore nice think suit on top of all the clothes. Perfectly warm.

Going from Sydney, the whole mission could take half a day and more budgeted then the helicopter flight. Its about 1-1.5 hr drive, 45 min flight. Well worth it on a good day. But with some strong turbulence, I did have to remind myself, that the guy had more then 20 years of flying and the craft is fitted with a ballistic parachute smile

Oh, one thing that I didn't realise before trying - it may take few hours to reach that smoking spot you see from the air craftsmile

I was based at Kandui resort, the lefts are Beng Bengs and the rights are Burger world. There were two lines of break at Burger World the inside take off I called dine in and the outside sweeping sets I called drive through. strangely on the other side of the burger world island there was a break called MacDonalds an island long left.glad you enjoyed the shots I enjoyed riding them!

Happy old fart!

Downside was that it took MUCH longer to get to that break (nth avalon) then expected, so had to abort the mission. Would be nice to jump off the craft with the boardsmile

Kandui resort..plush smile

Be very glad your ultralight didn't use Indo fuel.To quote a previous Red Headed Politician "please explain" Stand bye for Mentawaii Victory at Sea story coming soon to an Atlas near you! Then all will be revealedbig_smile

Happy old fart!

Is Indo fuel especially dodgy?

Sorry, that was Avoca, not Avalon. Amazingly, it was offshore there, while just few beaches down it was onshore.

Cool, cool smile

Can get up to 50/50 H2O and/or appropriate hydrocarbons, I wouldn't want to trust myself in the air with it but at least ultralites if well flown have a good glide angle.surpriseYou could become exxentrix under those circumstancesbig_smile

Happy old fart!

o_O I did hear some intense things about Garuda airlines and smaller charters...a boat or a bus is a better option.
