Nusa Lembongan is a small island off the southeast coast of the main island of Bali. Its neighbouring islands are Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan. There are two main beaches. Jungutbatu (Sunset Coast) in the north is the bigger of the two with a myriad of hotels, one resort with beachfront pool, restaurants and cheap eateries, and traditionally used to attract the backpackers, families and surfers.

Nusa Lembongan is the quintessential Balinese surf destination that you'd dreamed about, away from the 24 hours of in ya face partying and sleepless nights in Kuta. Lembongan is a laid back destination where time - and busy roads - don't exhist. It also happens to have some great surf spots. The dry season south easterly winds are offshore here so don't get confused with the Island being on the east side that it's wet season surfing here, it ain't.

With surf breaks known as Lacerations and Razors you should know what to expect, though there are a couple of mellower reefs such as Playgrounds and Cheningan, a great longboard wave.

Worth mentioning too is the diving is awesome here should the surf go flat. It's deep water drift diving with an abundance of large aquatic creatures to marvel at such as huge Manta rays and Dolphins.

A few years ago choice of accommodation on Nusa Lembongan was very limited - as was the electricity supply. Nowadays there are many places to rest you head to suit all pockets. You can book yourself into 5 star resorts with day spas and all the trimmings or go right down to Bali style hay barn beach huts. As with the rest of Bali, at the budget end, it really pays to shop around as quality to cost ratio can vary considerably. You can pay next to nothing per night (by western standards) for a very basic hay barn style pad or for a few cents more get something with a ceiling fan or even aircon up the street - so don't settle for the first place you come across! And as always - it really pays to haggle!
