Bmdavil: Christchurch Winterscape; 2005
An incredible area of enormous natural beauty and some of the best cold water surfing on the planet. The famous breaks are well known by surfers worldwide but some of the lesser known gems of this area of New Zealand are only now just creeping onto the radar screen of worldwide surf travellers. If uncrowded lineups and clasic coldwater points, reefs and breaks are your thing then find a travelling partner and get thee south young man - theres a lot to see.
where to stay
Antigua boatsheds, Christchurch; Greg O'Beirne; 21.04.2007
The range of accommodation in Christchurch is broad, though the city does have a number of events and festivals and beds soon fill up so double check and book in advance if necessary.
Every pocket is catered for here and whether you blow the budget on your bed or go cheap you will get value for money here, from clean and tidy bed and breakfasts run by proud owners to higher end hotels. There is also a great range of backpackers hostels and plenty of campervan rental agents - many of these are at the airport and can sort you out with a mobile home on arrival.
