The Capricorn Coast is a coastal region in Central Queensland, Australia. It doesn't have exact geographic boundaries, but usually is considered to stretch from Stanage Bay in the north, to the Fitzroy River in the south, and inland to about Rockhampton.

Want to surf the superbank? Mkay but don't spend three weeks out of your four week holiday lining up for your shot. The whole QLD coastline from the NSW boarder up to Fraser Island offers quality consistent surf and year round warm water. This coast reads like a who's who of classic surf spots. Kirra, Duranbah, Snapper Rocks, Noosa and the list goes on.

North of Fraser the combination of a generally north north west grading coastline and the fringing Great Barrier Reef reduce regular surfing options considerable. The great barrier reef does offer several excellent offshore passes and breaks for those of spirit all the way to Cairns, but their locations are fiercely guarded by the few that surf them. Still, this should give you plenty to keep yourself busy with.

The Capricorn Coast basically takes in the stretch of coastline between Bundaberg and Rockhampton as well as the offshore islands such as Heron, Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave.

Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton are the main hub of places to stay on the mainland and all offer hotel and motel accommodation as well as backpackers with dorm style rooms.

The offshore islands is where the real beauty lies on this stretch of coast all boasting awesome tropical diving and snorkeling and marking the southernmost tip of the Great Barrier Reef. Lady Elliot Island has a basic resort offering tent cabins, motel style units and self contained apartments. You can access fantastic coral gardens here straight from the beach but access to the island is by light aircraft.

Lady Musgrave is uninhabited but does have a campground, though you will have to be totally self sufficient.

Heron Island has a resort aimed at family holidays offering comfortable accommodation and meals and transfers from the mainland are via helicopter from Gladstone - the diving here is not to be missed.
