This region provides nice beaches, more peaceful way of life and is also the location of the Central Coast American Viticultural Area.
surfing
Surfers at Mavericks; Steve Jurvetson; January 12, 2008
The main advantage Central California has over its northern counterpart is it's more south west facing direction. It receives the same huge swells that buffet northern California but its more southward aspect also offers a bit of protection and helps to clean the huge swells up and offers relief from the winds. There are a myriad of surf spots on offer here to suit all surfers' quivers from the awesome macking Mavericks at Half Moon Bay topping clean 25ft surf right through to smurf surf, in comparison, waves ideal for the beginner at Cowells in Santa Cruz. Bring a selection of boards and surf youself sick...man.
where to stay
Furthur; Joe Mabel; Sept 1994
California has many options and a diverse range of accommodation to suit all pockets and lifestyle. Whether you're looking for the most upmarket resorts and 5 star hotels or the simple life of the great outdoors then California has somewhere to rest your head.
Camping
California has an abundance of state parks and beaches fully catered up for campers. Many of these run on a first come, first served, basis and some require booking in advance. There are many KOA (Kampgrounds Of America) run sites all through the state.
Bed & Breakfast
Bed and breakfast inns are also a good option that can work out relatively cheap with quite a distinctive atmosphere. These are usually set up in peoples own homes where they rent you a room and they provide breakfast in with the price. This kind of option is usually found in the country and smaller towns,
Recreational Vehicle (RV)
Most campgrounds throughout the state of California accept RV's and have electrical hook up facilities. You can also rent recreational vehicles from many hire companies and they are a great way to stay mobile and park up where the best waves are!
