Roni Marinkovic: Bol on the island of Brac, Dalmatia, Croatia; 2007
Surf in the Adriatic is a very fickle thing indeed. What is required is a major weather system to drill around at the entrance of the Adriatic around Albaniato send anything resembling swell up into the northern reaches. This can and does happen from time to time with the offshore islands of Croatia's scenic Dalmatia coastline making a fair result of these conditions. The islands offshore to the west of Split would offer you the best results in an epic storm.
what to pack
Flashdance: A pair of worn Flip flops; 3 October 2006
Going in winter will require appropriate clothing. You can also pack an electric blanket to keep you warm during nights. In the summer, it can be scorching hot all over Croatia, so take plenty of sunscreen and beach clothing & sandals. Try to choose classics, and items that you can mix and match. Have at least one set of nicer clothing for more formal occasions.
A small backpack makes a good carryon bag and will be useful in daily life. Women: remember to take a good flat pair of shoe's.... And for everybody: pair of comfortable walking shoes will be great for sightseeing.
The story with the medicines is pretty much the same as in all European countries. Better take your medicines with you, though you will still be able to by them on the spot. Just keep in mind that the brands can be unfamiliar and cost more. Bring along your basic necessities if you do not want to be using foreign brands.
