The Collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon are a small group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, south of Newfoundland and Labrador, the main islands being Saint Pierre and Miquelon, south of Newfoundland, Canada.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon are part of France and the European Union, but due to special immigration procedures, European nationals who are not French citizens are not allowed to exercise free movement and business establishment in the archipelago.

When the deep lows off the Newfoundland coast spiral out to the east across the Atlantic, the occasional system stalls in place just long enough to send some swell back towards the coast in it's wake - quite often with a bit of interest on top of it. A lot has to line up to provide a quality result on the cold water reefs around here and month long flat spells will have you climbing the walls...or the nearest bar. This can be the harsh reality of surfing on the east coast of northern Canada but in reality your not, your actually surfing in a part of France, dig?

There are a few hotels in Saint Pierre but one of the best would probably be Hotel Ile de France, it offers comfortable rooms and wireless internet along with a centre and convenient location.

Another 3 star hotel in Saint Pierre is L'Hotel Robert down by the harbour, just a few blocks west of where the Ferry from Newfoundland docks. It features a small museum dedicated to the Prohibition Era and a souvenir shop.

The weather is often very chilly and a sweater comes in handy, even during the summer months. So, warm clothes and camping gear for the cold weather. A small backpack makes a good carryon bag and will be useful in daily life. Women: remember to take a good flat pair of shoes....
And for everybody: pair of comfortable walking shoes will be great for walking. Beach clothing & sandals will be useful if you are going in the warm season.

Definitely take along some bug repellent spray, good sunscreen and sunglasses! Better take your medicines with you (esp. anti histamine tablets), as the brands can be unfamiliar and cost more. By the way, getting medical insurance would be a good idea.
